THE CRONENBERG PROJECT
The leading component of The Cronenberg Project is a comprehensive film exhibition titled David Cronenberg: Evolution, curated by Piers Handling and Noah Cowan. The exhibition, presented at TIFF Bell Lightbox in the HSBC Gallery, explores the world of David Cronenberg by tracing his development and progression as a filmmaker through the tropes of physical and psychological transformation that define his cinema; from telepaths to scientists and television producers to twin doctors. This also marks the first major original exhibition curated and produced by TIFF that will tour internationally.David Cronenberg: Evolution includes over sixty significant objects — costumes, props, set pieces and audio visual elements — such as the helmet from Videodrome (1983), the game console from eXistenZ (1999), the surgical tools from Dead Ringers (1988), the leg braces from Crash (1996) and typewriters from Naked Lunch (1991).
Inventing the Future
The MIT Media Lab applies an unorthodox research approach to envision the impact of emerging technologies on everyday life — technologies that promise to fundamentally transform our most basic notions of human capabilities. Lab researchers foster a unique culture of learning by doing, developing technologies that empower people of all ages, from all walks of life, in all societies, to design and invent new possibilities for themselves and their communities.
